The way your teeth look is important, your smile tells a lot about you to those you meet. Cosmetic dentistry practiced by a highly trained and experienced doctor and office staff such as the team at our Integrity Dental can greatly enhance the beauty of your smile while protecting your oral health. Our cosmetic dentist in San Diego team offers many different services designed to improve both the look and function of your teeth and mouth. Teeth will only look good if they are healthy so preventative and restorative dental care go hand in hand with cosmetic dentistry in caring for your oral health and the appearance of your smile.
Among the services provided by our cosmetic dentist in San Diego practice is the placement of veneers on chipped, cracked and discolored teeth. Veneers are thin sheets of tooth-colored material, usually porcelain, that are bonded to the front of a tooth. Our practice uses veneers to seal and protect cracks in the front of a tooth, even out an uneven tooth, protect small holes or pits from letting decay causing debris into the tooth, adjust the shape of a tooth, or correct a discolored or stained tooth. Veneers are used for minor restorations of teeth as an alternative to using more invasive and costly crowns. Placement of veneers usually doesn’t require our doctor remove much or any part of the existing tooth as with crowns. The veneers are custom created for each tooth by a lab from impressions that are doctor takes. The veneers are first temporarily affixed to the teeth in order to check its size, fit, and coloration. After any needed adjustments the veneers are permanently bonded to the front of the tooth.
The veneers perfectly match the tooth’s natural shape and size for its position in the mouth, even if the original tooth is misshaped or chipped at the end. The veneer also perfectly matches the color of the other teeth. This is important if the veneer is being used to transform a stained tooth. Often our patients will want to transform their smile by using a full set of lighter colored or white veneers. In this case our cosmetic dentist in San Diego will develop a full set of upper, or upper and lower teeth veneers, the number of veneers used for either jaw depends on the natural width of the patient’s smile. Once placed a veneer won’t be susceptible to staining and should last from 10 -15 years. Veneers are a simple, affordable approach to enhancing the appearance of your smile, protecting the teeth, and often restoring a tooth’s functionality, so contact our office to see if veneers can enhance your smile.
